E.g. Blog - An idea of the sort of year we have

A Year of Adventure, Friendship & Achievement – [Unit Name] Girlguiding Annual Round-Up!

What a fantastic year it’s been for [Unit Name] Girlguiding! From exciting outdoor adventures to creative badge work and unforgettable trips, our girls have had an amazing time growing in confidence, building friendships, and embracing every challenge the Girlguiding programme offers.

Here’s a look back at some of the highlights from the last 12 months:

🏕️ Camping & Outdoor Adventures

We kicked off the year with our spring camp at [Campsite Name], where the girls learned how to pitch tents, cook on open fires, and navigate using maps and compasses. We had glorious sunshine for most of the weekend (and only a little bit of mud!), and everyone came home with new skills—and lots of great memories.

In the summer, we joined forces with local units for a district-wide “Back to Basics” camp, where the girls took part in bushcraft workshops, wide games, and even had a go at archery. The teamwork and resilience they showed were incredible.

🚌 Trips and Days Out

This year’s highlight had to be our trip to [Location], where we spent the day [activities, e.g., exploring a science museum, going on a city scavenger hunt, taking part in a challenge trail]. For many girls, it was their first time travelling without family—and they smashed it!

We also took a group to a regional Girlguiding activity day at [Event Name or Location], where they tried climbing, abseiling, zip-lining, and even a high ropes course. Several girls conquered their fears and came down beaming with pride.

🎨 Unit Meetings & Programme Work

Each term, the girls worked on different parts of the Girlguiding programme. Some of the favourites included:

  • Skills For My Future: where girls learned budgeting basics, planned their own mock holidays, and tried their hand at simple DIY and cooking tasks.

  • Take Action: where the unit explored community issues, chose causes they cared about, and created posters and fundraising ideas.

  • Express Myself: from drama games to building our own mini fashion show, this theme really sparked everyone’s creativity!

We also invited guest speakers, including a local firefighter and a guide dog trainer, to share their careers and community roles.

🏅 Badges and Awards

We’re incredibly proud of all the badges and milestones achieved this year. Among the highlights:

  • Over 25 interest badges earned across the unit, from Baking and Animal Lover to Navigator and Be Well.

  • 4 girls completed their Bronze Award (a huge accomplishment!) by finishing six unit meeting activities, three interest badges, and one skills builder stage.

  • Several of our older girls are now well on their way to earning their Silver Awards, with leadership and service projects in the works.

We also celebrated several Go For It! challenges and participation in the Girlguiding Spring and Winter Challenges.

💬 What the Girls Say

We asked some of the girls what their favourite moments were this year:

“Sleeping in a tent for the first time and making s’mores!” – Lily, age 9
“I loved planning our charity night – we raised money and had so much fun!” – Ava, age 11“
The science museum was amazing – and we got ice cream after!” – Freya, age 8

💙 Thank You!

None of this would be possible without our brilliant team of volunteers. From organising weekly sessions to giving up weekends for trips, your support and energy mean everything.

Thank you also to our families for helping girls attend, driving them to events, and cheering them on at every stage.

👀 What’s Next?

Next year we’re planning a weekend away at [Upcoming Event or Camp], starting a new unit project around sustainability, and welcoming new Rainbows and Brownies to our ever-growing Girlguiding family.

We can’t wait to see what adventures lie ahead!
